Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts to become popular were not successful. Two labels signed her, but dismissed her prior to having released any music. Capitol Records, however, launched Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007, which received only modest approval with the track that was its title. I Kissed a Girl, a confident ode to her sexual curiosity set against a hard-edged electronic-pop beat, was a big sensation a couple of months later. It was not a popular song in that critics had criticized it for encouraging same-sex relationships as well as others who claimed it depicted a sexually explicit scene that appealed to male fantasies about sexuality in women. I Kissed a Girl became an international number-one single due to the combination of titillation with a polished tune. It also helped her sell more albums, including The One of the Boys. Hot N Cold's sharp, bouncey second track was extremely popular. The album that Perry composed in large part sold over three million copies.
