Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's attempts to gain popularity in the mainstream were unsuccessful. Before new material could even be put out, two record labels signed, then removed Perry. Capitol Records, however, issued Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007 and it was greeted with moderate success with the track that was its title. "I Kissed" a Girl was a more assertive ode sexism with a sharp edged electro-pop rhythm. The track quickly caused controversy as some critics derided the song for encouraging sexual relations between gays and lesbians while others claimed that the explicit scenario that it depicted was a sly way to appeal to the fantasies of males about female sexuality. But the mixture of polished and titillating melody contributed to the fact that I Kissed a Girl become an instant hit in a variety of countries and drove the album sales of the Boys (2008). The sharp and bouncy second single was also popular. The album that Perry created in large portion sold over three million copies.
