Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin reporting on the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the debate in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. She reported on a variety of notable stories, including weapons control, the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal and was frequently with the president Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
