
Lady Starlight was a performer Gaga had a relationship with during that time. Vince Herbert signed Gaga to Streamline Records in 2007 after an appearance at the Lollapalooza Festival. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during an experience with Famous Music Publishing. This business was later purchased and changed its name to Sony/ATV Music Publishing. She was then hired to write songs in support of Britney Spears, labelmates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. In 2008 Gaga released her debut album , 'The Fame', to only a few radio listeners; Gaga performed in Europe and at gay clubs in the US to launch the album. However, it wasn't until her first hit 'Just Dance' came to the spotlight in 2009 that Gaga became a major player on the music scene. Gaga suffered from a labral tear in her right leg which she secretly nursed for several weeks to ensure she could continue the tour. After her performance in Toronto, Gaga was unable walk without suffering extreme discomfort. She was taken to the hospital where her tour was canceled.
