Bruce Willis

Musician and actor Bruce Willis is well known for playing wisecracking or hard-edged characters, usually in stunning action films. Together, he's been in films that grossed over $2.5 billion USD. Walter Bruce Willis was born on March 19 1955 in Idar-Oberstein in West Germany, to a German mother, Marlene Kassel, and an American father, David Andrew Willis (from Carneys Point, New Jersey) and was living on a United States military base. His family moved to America soon after the birth of his son. He grew up in Penns Grove (New Jersey) where his mother was bank clerk, and his father worked as an electrician and in factories. Willis developed an interest for the dramatic arts in high school and was allegedly "discovered" when he was working at an establishment in New York City and then was featured in several off-Broadway productions. When he was bartending it was discovered that he was spotted by the casting director who was impressed by his character and was looking for an bartender for a brief film role. Willis was part of numerous auditions, before finding the role in the popular romantic comedy, Moonlighting (1985), as David Addison. His humorous and wisecracking P.I. is considered by some to be an opportunity to practice for the role of hard-boiled NYC detective "John McClane" in the monster hit Die Hard (1988), in which Willis' character single-handedly battled an gang of vicious international thieves inside a Los Angeles skyscraper. In Die Hard 2 (1990) in which he reprised the role. The group of rebellious Special Forces soldiers is trying to return a corrupt South American general. They are set in Washington's Dulles International Airport. The success of the film at the box office prompted an additional sequel Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995), this time with co-star Samuel L. Jackson as an unrepentant Harlem shop owner unwittingly thrust to assist McClane in the aftermath of a terrorist bombing campaign in the midst of a hot summer day in New York.
